Debby Boone: Reflections of Rosemary

For the THCA’s seventh season opener, Grammy Award winning artist Debby Boone brings songs from her first Concord Record release Reflections of Rosemary to the stage. This touching musical tribute creates a musical portrait of her late mother-in-law, the legendary Rosemary Clooney.

Reflection of Rosemary includes Boone’s powerful interpretation of Rosemary’s singing hits Blue Skies, Mood Indigo, Time After Time and In the Wee Small Hours. These songs are performed with additional selections that Boone included because of their personal family meaning. For Boone, Reflections of Rosemary, is more than just a performance; it is a deeply heart-felt and emotional tribute to a woman for whom she had great love and respect.

The Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts celebrates the joy of the season as it once again assembles Clay County arts groups and ensembles for its premier holiday presentation of music, song and pageantry. Continuing this annual holiday tradition, Clay County Christmas will feature festive performances by the Clay County Community Band, the Celebration Choir of First Baptist Church of Orange Park, Diane Combs directing the Orange Park United Methodist Church Inspirations and others yet to be announced.

Executive Director Tony Walsh, Evan and Judy Gould, and many talented Clay County students will once again perform selected scenes and songs from Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol. Walsh will bring the holiday show to an end when he directs the Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts Players in a stunning theatrical reenactment of the Christmas Nativity.

During his nearly four-decade career, Kenny Loggins has established himself as many things to countless music lovers. For the first half of the ‘70s, he was part of the popular and influential duo Loggins & Messina. Fred Haise: Failure Is Not An Option

Apollo 13 astronaut and recipient of the Presidential Award for Freedom.

Astronaut Fred Haise served as the lunar module pilot during the ill-fated 1970 Apollo 13 space mission. Soon after, he survived another harrowing ordeal: in 1973, he was burned over 65 percent of his body following an aircraft crash during filming of the Pearl Harbor epic, Tora! Tora! Tora!. Later, Haise went on to become one of the first astronauts to pilot the space shuttle in test missions. He was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame on October 4, 1997.

Fred Haise has never flinched from facing risk to achieve success and—in more than one historic incident—survival. Haise shares how teamwork is a necessary and integral component of success in any undertaking, great or small, and elaborates on the inherent values of good communication and individual responsibility.

For its adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale The Ugly Duckling , the Bits ‘N Pieces Puppet Theatre tells the story of Pinky, a perky, hot pink Florida flamingo, hatched by a couple of very proper Polar Penguin parents! Pinky Flamingo learns it’s hard to be different, but you must be yourself to find true happiness.

Back by audience request, Southern Stories returns to the THCA Studio Theater in late spring. Featuring literary works by both popular and obscure Southern writers, this delightful presentation will transport you imaginatively back to a bygone era of Southern gentility and charm and once again promises to be a delightful repast from the hectic pace of present day life.

Join THCA Executive Director Tony Walsh as he escorts you down the banks of the St. Johns and Suwannee rivers in Northeast Florida, once again, with local actress Susan Carcaba. With a special appearance by THCA favorites, flautist Donna Wissinger and pianist Joy Myers, the performance will also feature music and songs by the popular American songwriter Stephen Foster.

Proceeds from Southern Stories will benefit both the Mary Ward Huntley Florida Artists Fund and the Roger and Gail Arrowsmith Education Enhancement Fund of the THCA.
