Following the runaway success of Avenue Q, the good people at Slow Burn Theatre Company are once again making the trek up to Northeast Florida to showcase their newest production, Xanadu. Based on the 1980 Olivia Newton-John film of the same name, Xanadu follows a group of muses from ancient Greece who spring to life from a Southern California mural in hopes of convincing a local painter to open a roller disco in an abandoned auditorium. Along the way, one of the muses falls in love with the painter, and the entire affair is underscored by the hits of Electric Light Orchestra.
Naturally, this show is not meant to be taken seriously.
It’s hilarity on wheels for adults, children and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired! This adventurous roller skating zany musical spoof is about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you. Roll and sing along to the hits “Magic,” “All Over The World,” “Suddenly,” “I’m Alive,” “Evil Woman,” “Have You Never Been Mellow” and “Xanadu,” all composed by pop-rock legends Electric Light Orchestra (ELO).
But if campy throwback humor is your forte, or even if you enjoyed Avenue Q, we recommend taking some time out of your busy February schedule to check out this pitch-perfect parody of one of 1980’s biggest cult films reinvented as a hilarious stage musical.
Prime seats to Xanadu are still available by contacting our Box Office at (904)276-6815 or visiting THcenter.org. Skate on over to the theatre and grab your seats today!
