The galleries at the Thrasher-Horne Center are an important part of our vision to be a hub of culture, education, and community in Northeast Florida. Located just off of our main lobby, our visual galleries—the Lee Adams Florida Artists Gallery and the Jack Mitchell Gallery—are the only art galleries located in Clay County.
The Lee Adams Florida Artist Gallery features artists three times a year. We extend the opportunity to local professional artists in our community to display their work for a four month time period. The Jack Mitchell Gallery proudly displays a permanent collection of the work of famous photographer Jack Mitchell (1925-2013) whose photography career spanned forty-five years. Our galleries are free to the public and are open weekdays from 11:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m., as well as one hour prior to showtime on event nights at our performing arts venue. We also offer private viewings by appointment.
Upcoming and Current Events

Landscape of Guitar: The Animated Painting Concert Experience
Mark your calendar for January 18, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. for a special gallery and Studio Theatre event. This groundbreaking art and music production brings animated paintings to life with song that “inspires the human spirit,” according to the Chicago Tribune. An hour prior to the performance, meet Bruce Hecksel and Julie Patchouli at an opening gallery reception of Hecksel’s Guitar Landscapes. His guitar-themed artwork—stained glass-like, acrylic paintings—are the foundation on which the Landscape of Guitar show was created. This exhibit will remain on display through March 16.
Thursdays@Thrasher
Join us at Thursdays@Thrasher, a free, tri-annual community event that showcases local artists whose work is displayed in our galleries. Artists are available to talk about their displayed works, and concessions and food trucks are on site. Be there this March 14 when we will be featuring the artists of the Art Guild of Orange Park. The Guild has displayed and promoted the visual arts since 1973 and offers resources for artists throughout the Northeast Florida area.
Apply to Exhibit Your Work
We invite artists in the community to apply to exhibit their work in our Lee Adams Florida Artist Gallery. Artists must have 10 to 15 pieces ready to hang and be able to replenish pieces within two weeks of their sale. Work will remain on display for a four month time period. Since our facility hosts events of all kinds, from concerts and plays to expos and corporate meetings, our galleries are on display for guests and visitors to attend. This provides a unique opportunity for artists to have their work viewed by a diverse audience.
Rent Our Gallery Spaces
For an event that’s out of the ordinary, book our gallery spaces for your next gathering. The Lee Adams Gallery offers 1,217 square feet and the Jack Mitchell Gallery is 950 square feet. To learn more or to reserve space, please call Technical Director Jan-Hein Phelps at 904-276-6815, extension 7.
Support the Thrasher-Horne Center Galleries
The late Louis and Mary Ward Huntley of Orange Park generously established the Mary Ward Huntley Florida Artists Fund, which supplies financial support to our galleries. The fund assists artists in transporting their work to the galleries, promoting their exhibits, and sponsoring opening receptions. Any donation amount to the fund is appreciated and is tax deductible.
