Last season at the Thrasher-Horne we hosted our sophomore Broadway Series, building on the success of our inaugural season the year before and debuting a collection of four professional musical tours on our stage including the national and regional premiere of Into The Woods, hilarious performances from Avenue Q and Xanadu, and crowd-favorite Mamma Mia!. For only the second time in Northeast Florida history residents were offered an alternative venue outside of downtown to experience a season of blockbuster musicals fresh from the Great White Way.
We once again offered Broadway Series Subscription Packages to provide easy access and a great discount to you, ensuring your favorite seats to each one of our hit musicals without the hassle of individual ticket purchases. And we couldn’t offer all this without debuting another contest with an all-expense paid trip to New York City as the grand prize. An entry into the contest was included with the purchase of a Broadway Subscription, and our winner was announced last November before the beginning of our Broadway Season. And as you may remember, our lucky winner was none other than Veda Deen!
Like our inaugural winners The Calloways, Veda Deen was a perfect recipient of the grand prize. Since 2014, Mrs. Deen has attended every Broadway and Dance production on our Main Stage. In fact, she was completely surprised when we called to award her the prize, as she renewed her Broadway Subscription with no idea there was a contest involved. We love that kind of loyalty from our supporters, and we were thrilled to reward her with a long weekend in the Big Apple in the week leading up to the 2017 Tony Awards, complete with airfare on American Airlines, hotel accommodations at the Distrikt Hotel in the Garment District, and tickets to Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre and Miss Saigon at the Broadway Theatre.
Veda Deen was completely thrilled with her New York experience. She hadn’t been to the city in over 30 years, so it was eye opening for her to see all the changes that Times Square has gone through. The weekend was spent sightseeing through Midtown Manhattan (including Trump Tower) and enjoying some authentic NY Pizza and a NY Danish. Overall, New Yorkers still moved around as quickly as Veda remembered, but everyone went out of their way to be helpful and friendly to her during her stay.
Check out some snaps of our winner’s trip below, and make sure to reserve your subscription (and secure your contest entry) for our 2017-2018 Broadway Season, including A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, Cabaret, The Wizard of Oz, and Jersey Boys!
Who will win next year’s trip? It could be YOU!
